"1. Grant has the following injuries:
- fractured scapula (shoulder),
- fractured clavicle (collar bone - three places so have to operate on this once lung settles down),
- 10 fractured ribs and some in 10 places,
- fractured sternum,
- two spinal fractured (which are minor in comparison), fractured femur which is now repaired with a pin and two screws (he should walk again).
Internal organ injuries are:
- abdominal bleeding and trauma,
- liver and kidney trauma,
- but the big one is the right lung (more on this later). His brain is functioning well, no neurological issues, his neck is ok even though he had a rupture of the artery in the neck and leg as well.
2. Grant had the second operation to place the pin in his collar bone and this was a success. I arrived and Grant was only coming back at that
time from the operation theater so I had to wait a bit, but then got to spend some time with the doctor who explained that they found some blood clots on his lung this morning, and had to get rid of this through a bronchial tube and this seems to be successful as he is breathing a bit better. The air on his lungs has reduced as well, but he generally needs to be given a lot of time for the lungs to heal as there is still blood on the lungs which they are draining, but at least the hole in the lung is now repairing itself. His bleeding in the abdomen around the liver and spleen is constant and this is a good sign, so they expect this is healing and should show much recovery in the next few days. HIs ribs, scapula and sternum would now have to heal on their own and this will take a while, but at least they are not causing any further hassles. GOOD NEWS is that Grant actually wrote for me on a few pages, giving me details of his insurance etc. He also described some of the detail in the fall, where he says he was pushed out to the side of the road. He also complained he is not getting enough fresh oxygen, and we could fix that. The pipe for oxygen would have to stay for another few days,and the air feeding him through a pipe in his nose. I also went out to inspect the area of his fall with the organizer, director, doctor who treated him in the ambulance and I can only tell you these are people that care and are very helpful. The sequence of events that happened to get Grant where he is today could not be more ideal, so lets be thankful! I am going to visit on special arrangement with the doctor for another hour or so, and I will then update you again I am feeling better. We are not out of the woods, but we can see the light!"
